The Good

Monster is kind of the industry standard for the working musician or studio nutball. This particular instrument cable is designed with diversity in mind. It’s kind of the Swiss Army Knife of cables, able to handle a wide variety of situations…and well! Bass, keys, guitar, or any line-level you throw at it will land at its destination perfectly unscathed.

The Bad

I’ve been using the same Monsters for six years without a single problem or complaint. Why should I expect anything less from the P500 series?

A few Performer 500’s are probably on every stage across the country. Serious musicians have one in the glove box, too. They’re very accessible, as in every Guitar Center outlet and most every half-respectable music shop should carry them. In fact, that’s a good gauge of a business’ legitimacy. Be weary of a music shop that doesn’t carry a good variety Monster.

When I play with another musician for the first time and he pulls out a Monster, I’m usually a little more settled knowing they have some experience. It’s like when a prostitute pulls out a tuxedo black condom (you chose wisely).

Monster passes its Performer 500 Instrument Cable an all-around great choice for virtually any instrument. This is vastly different than its instrument cable counterparts, each of which have a specific application like Monster’s Jazz or Acoustic cables.

As the world’s leading cable manufacturer, Monster has vast resources to dump research and development into their products. For this cable, they use dual solid-core conductors, each wound tightly with a MicroFiber dielectric for insulation. All that is wrapped in a 95% copper braided shield, then the DuraFlex jacket. The connectors are made with 24K gold. The result is an extremely low floor-noise, high immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI and RFI) and easy handling.

Should anything go wrong with your Monster Performer 500 or any Monster cable, they back it up with a lifetime warranty. If it breaks, take it into a Monster retailer and they’ll hand you a new one.

I use the Performers on the most trialing instrument: keyboards. These multi-timbral machines easily run the entire frequency spectrum and usually have a pretty powerful output amp built in. I keep my boards’ levels pretty low and boost my mixer’s gain, and never get any sort of noise due to the Monster cables. As of lately, they’re the only components not making noise in my rig, which desperately needs a cleaning.
