They’re the right length, the right quality and the right price. Good enough for me…I actually own two 8-packs for a whopping 16 1-foot cables.
In a controlled environment like a studio, you can keep your gear permanently fixed in a rackmount, or at least within decent proximity to each other. This can (actually, should) eliminate your audio signal going through any unnecessary lengths of cables. There are few feelings as good as having the right length cable at hand, and that’s where Hosa’s interconnects come into play.
The CPP-800 series is actually available in three difference lengths: 830 (1ft), 845 (1.5ft) and 890 (3ft). Depending on how far apart your connections are, you might as well get one of each. Why not?
These unbalanced cables are color-coded. The entire cable is the solid color, so you can follow its path quite easily, especially into dark places or through a labyrinthine rack of audio components. If you buy more than one pack, I suggest taking a marker to the duplicate colors and giving it some zebra stripes by its terminals.
As patch bay interconnects, the one-footers will not reach all the way across a bay. If you have your bay setup with lots of space between the terminals, as I do, you will need the three-foot cables.
I use the Hosa cables on my patch bay to route different signals to my monitors, outboard effects units, and my Digi 002 Rack. Another handy use for the cables is when I’m using my Behringer Eurodesk’s preamps and EQs for signal processing, and connect each channel’s direct out to my A/D converter. That’s a great pre for toms, by the way.
Unlike a lot of cable companies, Hosa does not go overboard with materials or construction. They do not import their metals from lunar mines, deep-freeze the insulation and have a Rabbi bless the finished product with oil from baby seals. And then charge you for it. What they make are reasonable interconnects at reasonable prices, absolutely perfect for the working musician or project studio. Whatever your interconnect needs, Hosa will most likely accommodate.
